Belejeck, who studied two years at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Services in Arizona and finished up his doctorate at the University of Bridgeport's College of Naturopathic Medicine in May 2010, was trained to look at his patients as people, and that every person is different, he said. He explained the basic principle that two people can suffer from the same ailment but could need different treatments for the same problem based on their own individual make up and bodies.
DURHAM Dr. Jason M. Belejack is hoping to bring calming and naturopathic therapies to town in the form of a new Durham Naturopathic Health and Wellness Center, inviting the public to an open house on Saturday.
"I looked into it. I was like this is great," Belejack said. "The only difference is treatment. The science is the same, the difference is the approach."
Belejack decided that his next option was to explore massage therapy, where he became excited about the holistic approach to healing, he said, studying at the CT Center for Massage Therapy in Newington.
A lot of the treatments that Belejack performs are related to food, and involve dietary modifications.
Belejack's advice to skeptics is to give it a try, "now is the time for a change of medical care there are options," he said. "I'd be glad to share the scientific validation behind the treatment and patient testimonials."
"I always loved medicine, I wanted to grow up to be a doctor," Belejack said. "I explored a couple different options in college. I tried business, but it wasn't for me so I went back to biology."

"I think we are the wave of the future," said Belejack, about naturopathic doctors, mentioning that many insurance companies now cover naturopathic treatments. "People just have to be educated on what this is. I keep the 'whole' in holistic. I try to offer a lot to my patients."
One of Belejack's instructors at the Center for Massage Therapy, who knew Belejack's background in medicine, suggested he look into naturopathic therapies.
"We go above the recommended vitamins and minerals," said Belejack, about treating certain deficiencies, and that if a certain building block is missing then the body is not able to function properly.

The basic physical exams that patients go through when they come to the center help Belejack to determine certain deficiencies by simply looking at their fingernails and eyes, he said.
"In massage therapy you need to know your bones, muscles, different pathologies and diseases," Belejack said.
"After four years I decided I didn't like it anymore," Belejack said. "A lot of it was being a trained monkey. You always have to follow the same routine. I wanted to be more active with the patients."
Everyone from infants to senior citizens can benefit from the treatments, said Belejack, who has noticed that patients generally start feeling better within a month or two from the start of their treatments and that most of his clients come to him through word of mouth or as a last resort after traditional medicine has failed them, he said.

Belejack will also offer weight management programs and mentioned that he is excited to possibly work with local fitness centers, "everyone is excited that I'm coming in," he said.
