"These are good because it gets kids off the streets and in an organized and supervised environment to get them out of trouble," Hillary Wharton added.

Many families brought their kids out for a night of fun at the event sponsored by the Nashua Police Department, the Boys Girls Club of Greater Nashua and the Nashua Police Athletic League, and appreciated the education aspect of it as well.

Activities included a street hockey game between PAL and the Boys Girls Club, a cookout, carnival games, cupcake decorating, a live band, a book giveaway and a raffle with prizes. Members from Target handed out stuffed dogs, silly bands, Frisbees and popcorn and did face paintings.

"I think it's good for her to be out at these events," Ben Wharton said. "She's having a good time. She always has a blast at all of these events."
"Crime is something that any community has to deal with on a daily basis," he said. "It is unfortunately a part of our society so we need to take these steps in order to protect the citizens who work here, live here and visit here as best as we can."
